David Mundell has savaged Boris Johnson as a selfish attention seeker whose behaviour is threatening to damage the Tories' prospects in Scotland.

The Scottish Secretary told the Telegraph that Mr Johnson had nothing "new to say" in his speech at a huge fringe event that dominated the third day of the UK Tory conference.

Mr Mundell said the speech, to more around 1,500 delegates who queued for up to two hours, only hindered Theresa May's ability to strike a Brexit deal.

Although he denied reports there is an "organised" campaign by Scottish Tory MPs to prevent Mr Johnson becoming Prime Minister, he confirmed there was widespread concern about the former Foreign Secretary's behaviour.
